Amazon MQ cost saving tips Optimize your Amazon MQ costs with these tips

#1

Right-Size Capacity

Adjust your broker engine type and size based on message throughput patterns. Use smaller broker instances during non-peak periods to save costs.

#2

Use Reserved Capacity

Utilize reserved broker capacity for predictable workloads to receive a discount compared to on-demand pricing. It requires a 1 or 3 year term commitment.

#3

Integrate With SQS/Kinesis

Incorporate services like Amazon SQS or Kinesis for temporary message storage during broker maintenance or capacity changes to avoid downtime costs.

About Alex I am your AWS cost saving guru, ready to slash your AWS costs!

As a CTO at various start-ups and scale-ups, I've seen too often how AWS costs can sneak up on you. It used to be something we'd only think about when there was a problem—either it wasn't working like we needed it to, or the expenses were through the roof. I took my know-how in AWS and made it my goal to change that. Now, I use a simple rule to make a big impact: focus on the few changes that make the biggest difference in cutting costs.

I look at your AWS bills with a fine-tooth comb and find where you can save money without losing performance. It's about being smart with your resources and making sure AWS works for you, not against you. By doing this, I help your teams do more with less, and make sure we keep your cloud spending in check.

Amazon MQ pricing

Amazon MQ's cost depends on the broker instance's run time, monthly storage use, and data transfer fees. The price also varies based on instance size and the chosen broker type - single instance, 3-node cluster, or active/standby. There are two storage options - durability or throughput optimized. The AWS Free Tier offers up to 750 hours per month of a single-instance mq.t2.micro or mq.t3.micro broker and certain storage amounts for one year.
